Migraine, what it is caused by

Headache is one of the most commonly suffered ailments: it is often referred to as migraine and headache. Headaches can be primary (if they are not associated with any disease) and include migraine or cluster headaches, or secondary headaches that are related to other diseases. There are many over-the-counter medications that are used specifically to get rid of headaches, but be careful not to overdo it and underestimate the problem should it be chronic.

Migraine is thus a primary headache

L’migraine is thus a primary headache, that is, a very painful and partially disabling form of headache; it usually affects only one side of the skull, either the right or the left.

It may be accompanied by nausea, vomiting, lacrimation, marked sensitivity to light (photophobia), noise (phonophobia) or smell (osmophobia) and insomnia.

the specific causes that trigger migraine are not yet fully known but some risk factors ares:

  • direct or prolonged exposure to intense light sources, loud sounds and noises, or certain smells
  • Hormonal changes due to puberty or menopause or due to taking the birth control pill, or related to imbalances in the menstrual cycle (in fact, many women suffer from it before, during or after their period)
  • An unregulated lifestyle: drinking alcohol, smoking, getting little rest, being constantly stressed or perpetually active, and consuming an improper diet. Taking some drinks could also promote the onset of migraine as well as the consumption of certain foods such as tomatoes, citrus fruits, bananas, chocolate, coffee, alcohol containing sulfites (preservatives that can trigger headaches), glutamate from packaged nuts, some dairy products , red meat, etc. So it is very important to assess well what you eat and remember to always keep well hydrated, including taking herbal teas with lemon balm, passion flower, chamomile and generally soothing
  • certain medical conditions such as anxiety and depression.

Migraines can become chronic, i.and., recur at least 15 days a month or more.

In case they are more frequent, it will be good to investigate by doing the appropriate examinations and investigations.
